Know Where Your Business Stands Every Month.
Accurate books, a structured monthly close, and reporting built around how your business actually makes money.
Does This Sound Familiar?
You can’t clearly see profit by service or contract
The books close late and financial reports aren’t reliable
Your reports don’t explain what’s actually driving profit
Accurate Books. Meaningful Insights. Confident Decisions.
We combine accurate bookkeeping with strategic insight to help IT services and professional services firms operate with clarity and make confident decisions. With over 20 years of experience in finance and a practice built around IT consulting companies, managed service providers, cybersecurity firms, and professional services, we deliver clean, organized records and practical insight that connects your financial data to the decisions that matter most.
Built for How Professional Services Firms Actually Make Money
Professional services firms have financial complexity that most generalist bookkeeping practices are not set up to handle. Project margin and recurring revenue operate differently. Billable utilization drives profitability in ways a standard P&L does not capture. Your operational systems create data that belongs in your books but rarely gets there cleanly. At Blue Walney, we build and maintain the financial structure that gives your leadership team visibility into what is working, what is costing you, and what to do next.
Whether you need consistent monthly financial management or ongoing strategic advisory support, we provide the clarity and structure that allow you to make informed decisions.
Questions We Help You Answer Every Month:
Are our books current, reconciled, and ready for CPA review?
What is our gross margin this month, and what is driving it?
How is labor cost tracking as a percentage of revenue?
What do our software and operational tools cost relative to what we earn?
Which invoices are outstanding and how long have they been open?
Is our cash position stable and predictable?
Are my financial statements ready if a bank, investor, or potential acquirer asks for them?
Our monthly financial management services provide structured reporting and a disciplined monthly close so you always have accurate, decision-ready numbers.
Want Deeper Financial Insight and Forward Looking Guidance?
Can we sustain current headcount if revenue softens or a contract ends?
Which engagements or services should we grow, reprice, or exit?
What does cash flow look like over the next 90 days?
How do we price this contract to hit our margin target?
What happens to our numbers if we add a team member or lose our largest client?
How dependent are we on our top one or two clients, and what happens if one of them leaves?
Our advisory support builds on structured financial reporting with forward-looking analysis and scenario planning so you can make confident decisions about growth, staffing, and pricing.
Why Choose Us?
We Know How Professional Services Firms Make Money
With over 20 years of finance experience and a practice built around IT services and professional services firms, we bring depth that generalist bookkeepers cannot. We understand billable utilization, project margin, recurring vs. non-recurring revenue, and your operational systems connect to your books. That context changes every report we produce and every conversation we have.
More Time for What Matters
Outsourcing your bookkeeping and financial management frees your leadership team to focus on delivery, client relationships, and growth decisions. With a structured monthly process handling your financial infrastructure, you gain both peace of mind and time back to do the work that actually moves your business forward.
Reports Your Leadership Team Will Actually Use
Standard financial statements tell you what happened. Our reporting adds the layer that matters for professional services firms: gross margin by service line, labor cost as a percent of revenue, software and operational tool costs, and visibility across recurring revenue, project revenue, and pass-through costs. Clear, structured, and built for decisions, not just compliance.
Accuracy & Compliance
We maintain accurate, compliant records by following industry standards, reconciling all accounts, and closing the books on a consistent monthly schedule. Your books are always current, organized, and CPA-ready, with everything your tax preparer needs delivered on time and without surprises.

About Us
Blue Walney Bookkeeping & Advisory provides professional bookkeeping and financial advisory services built specifically for IT services firms, professional services companies and service-based small businesses. We help IT consulting companies, managed service providers, cybersecurity firms, professional services firms and small businesses build the financial infrastructure that gives leadership clear visibility into margin, cash, and performance.
Founder Lisa Johnson
I built Blue Walney around a gap I kept seeing in the market for professional services firms. Growing firms with real financial complexity were being served by generalist bookkeepers who did not understand their business model. The books were technically maintained but financially uninformative. That is a solvable problem, and it is the one I set out to fix.
With an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School and over 20 years of finance and program management experience at Fortune 500 companies, I know what rigorous financial infrastructure looks like. I am also a certified Project Management Professional, which means I think in systems and processes, not just transactions. I built this practice to bring that same discipline to growing professional services firms, where it matters most and is hardest to find.
If your books are current but your reports are not telling you anything useful, that is exactly the problem I built this firm to solve.
